God Remembers

January 9, 2017

Taken from a teaching on Genesis 8:

Verse 1 is my favorite verse in this passage. "But God remembered Noah." In my Bible, I've written my name in place of Noah's. But God remembered Linda. He has done it so many times!

In Chapter 7, we saw that when Noah, his family, and the animals boarded the ark, 7 days passed before the flood began. Then there were 40 days of flooding, and the water prevailed for 150 days.

Finally it came to rest on Mt. Ararat. Do you think Noah and his family might have had the thought that at long last their trial of faith was just about at an end? Maybe.

Two and a half months later, as the waters continued to go down, other mountain peaks became visible (8:5). Would they ever leave this ark? God's word to Noah was: "But I will establish My covenant with you …" This was God's promise to Noah. God made a covenant with him; a promise.

Forty more days (v. 6). Seven more days (v. 10). Another 7 days (v. 12). And finally the dove didn't come back. Dry land … are we there yet? Verse 13: " By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year the water had dried up from the earth." I love this verse! It is a marker. On the first day of the first month of Noah's 601st year ... a new year in Noah's life.

Sometimes for me there's a new year. It might begin on July 10th or October 29th or maybe even January 1st, but either way, it is the time period from the beginning of my trial. A new day; a new year. The new year might be the 7th year since my trial began. I mark it as a year of possible completion. The new year may be the 8th year: the year of new beginnings! Marking these days gives me hope. I'm still believing that the light will come. Markers on my journey of faith.

Verse 14: Two more months went by, and at last the earth was dry!  Then God said to Noah, “Leave the boat …" There was the word: Leave. It's over. At first the word was "Stay," now the word was "Go." Ladies, God will speak "stay" when you are to stay, and He will speak "go" when it's time for you to go. Trust Him! For Noah the time had come. "Go forth."

And when Noah left the ark, he built an altar to the Lord. Do you build an altar when God delivers you? Maybe notes in your Bible, next to the verse that said "Go;" an entry in your journal; a prayer of thanksgiving. A way of marking your journey. A way to mark your deliverance; worshipping the Lord and thanking Him for remembering you.

But God remembered Noah.

But God remembered Linda.

But God will remember you.

He always does ... He always will.
